Cloud computing in healthcare

 CLOUD COMPUTING IN HEALTHCARE

Globally many healthcare have moved to cloud computing technology. Over the few years, the evolution of cloud technology in healthcare has been increasing due to its mega usage.

A recent research has shown, the global is expected to grow by USD 26 billion during the year 2020-2025. And mainly due to COVID-19 Pandemic has reinforced this trend.

WHY CLOUD COMPUTING IMPORTANT FOR HEALTHCARE?

In healthcare industry, a significant amount of data is generated daily, the large amount of data and its remote accessibility free up providers and patients engage with healthcare through cloud technology.

Benefits of cloud computing in healthcare:

  • First and foremost data storage plays a major role. Healthcare providers have to deal with electronic medical records, patient portals, mobile apps, and big data analytics.
  • There is lot of data to manage and analyse, such as healthcare institutions to store all the data while avoiding extra costs of maintaining physical servers.
  • The challenge that companies across all industries are familiar with tight budgets which forces them to invest in "keeping the lights on" activities over innovation.
  • Since cloud computing runs under a subscription model, healthcare providers can save up money from purchasing expensive systems and equipment.
  • One of the most common concerns when talking about the cloud is how secure is it have all your apps and patient data in third party server.
  • By using certain rules of European GDPR for the protection pf personal data, or US's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA).
  • Cloud Computing not only allows its users to access the information remotely, as it includes automation of backups and disaster recovery options but in the case of a breach, healthcare providers don't lose any data and can minimize the downtime for their staff.

Some of other benefits of cloud in healthcare:

  • Collaboration
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning
  • Data storage
  • Scalability
  • Cost
  • Security
